“Fan the Flame”

The 12th Kansas Disability Caucus will be held in Topeka on August 10, 11, and 12 with a Pre-Conference on August 9 and 10 provided by ikan that will focus on providing Independent Living services to individuals who are blind or have low vision.

Individuals throughout the state with all types of disability and of any age are invited to attend. The Kansas Disability Caucus exists to develop new disability leadership in Kansas, to educate Kansans with disabilities and to elicit solutions for issues within the community.

The theme for the Kansas Disability Caucus this year is “Fan the flame of Advocacy, Change, Strength, Employment, Leadership, Hope, and our Future”. It is sure to be an exciting, fun, informational time. The theme for the Disability Caucus is especially timely this year with all of the challenges that the disability community is facing in Kansas due to a new Administration and Legislature with their own ideas about what Independent Living in Kansas should mean.

An exciting highlight of the Disability Caucus this year will be Flame, the Band performing. This is a group of 10 people with disabilities who are focused on changing the world through music. They have gained recent notoriety after performing for NYC Mayor Bloomberg, being featured in “People” magazine, and appearing on ABC TV’s “Good Morning America”.

If you are interested in attending the Kansas Disability Caucus and/or the Pre-Conference please contact your local RCIL office or download the following registration forms.
