RCIL: Advocates in Red
Posted December 22, 2010 by Mandy Smith in Advocacy
A majority of our staff attended the Big Tent Rally on April 29, 2010. The leaders of the Big Tent asked us to wear red to be more visible. Our staff was also spending a lot of time at the Capitol building during this time, so we decided we would order shirts for staff members who were interested that would be red and visible for the legislators.
On the shirt is the Superman logo with the accessible sign in the middle instead of the S. Above the image it says “We Contribute” and below the logo it says “We Matter”. We contribute stood for the fact that many people with disabilities work and pay taxes. We felt that many times people with disabilities are overlooked and treated unfairly even though they contribute to society just as much as any able-body person does.
We matter stood for the fact that people with disabilities deserve better and they should matter to society. Every able-body person will one day have a disability whether it is a disease, physical condition or even a broken arm or leg. Everyone grows older and with that comes ailments. We as a society need to take care of people with disabilities because they are people who have rights!
Feel free to join our advocacy efforts this upcoming legislative session! We’ll be at the Capitol in our red shirts letting everyone know that people with disabilities contribute and matter!
