RCIL is thankful for…

Posted November 24, 2010 by Mandy Smith in

With today being the day before Thanksgiving, I thought I’d just write a little about what we are thankful for at RCIL

1.) Our Consumers! Without our consumers we would not exist! Thank you!

2.) Personal Care Attendants (PCAs)! Without PCAs, many of our consumers would not be able to stay at home and not have their independence.

3.) Choice! Choice allows individuals with disabilities the opportunity to live where they want, do what they want and work where they want. Their lives are decided by them and only them!

4.) Medicaid cut reinstatement! At the end of 2009, Governor Parkinson made a 10% Medicaid cut that affected our Center, consumers and PCA. With the reinstatement of these funds, things are looking better.

5.) Legislators who support choice! Legislators who support choice are the key to continuing home and community based services. They vote for funding that allows our services to continue.

6.) Community Partners! Without our community partners, we would not be able to provide our services.

7.) ADA! The Americans with Disability Act, which was signed 20 years ago prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunity for people with disabilities in employment, state and local government services, public accommodations, commercial facilities, and transportation.

8.) Independence/HCBS! Thanks to home and community based services, individuals with disabilities are able to stay in their homes and their communities to live the lives of their choice.

9.) Employees! Our employees make us great! These people are wonderful to work with and will do anything in their power to keep a person independent.

10.) Our Families! Our families support us in our choices. They help us and listen to us when we need it. They believe in us and advocate with us.

I hope you enjoyed RCIL’s top 10 things to be thankful for and please comment about what you are thankful for this season!
