Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Resources Secretary Shawn Sullivan announced Thursday that a new resource is available to help Kansans. Effective November 1, the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) is now available to provide Kansans with information and referrals. ADRC staff members can also put residents in contact with local Options Counselors.
The ADRC is a trusted source of information where people of all ages, abilities and income levels—and their caregivers—can go to obtain assistance in planning for their future long-term service and support needs.
The ADRC is designed to empower older adults and persons with disabilities to make informed choices about their services and supports. This will streamline access to those services and ensure their individual needs will be met. The ADRC can refer individuals to an array of in-home, community-based and institutional services, as well as provide decision-making support through a service called Options Counseling.
“We look forward to working closely with the ADRC to ensure that the Kansans we serve receive the valuable information they need to make informed choices about their lives,” Sec. Sullivan said.
The Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services recently signed a contract with the Southwest Kansas Area Agency on Aging to become the statewide ADRC. The Southwest Kansas Area Agency on Aging has subcontracted with the 10 other Area Agencies on Aging to provide statewide ADRC coverage so that all 105 counties in the state of Kansas have access to a local ADRC.
